California Highway Patrol press release: 

On September 15, 2015, at approximately 0330 hours, a side-by-side UTV, driven by a 30 year old male of Garberville, CA was traveling on private property off of Alderpoint Road, near Blocksburg.  For reasons still under investigation, the UTV was involved in a roll-over collision.  The front right passenger, known only as “Smokey” (white, male, approximate age 25 to 40, numerous unique tatoos) was transported by the driver of the UTV from the collision scene to Jerold Phelps Community Hospital.  The male passenger was pronounced deceased shortly after his arrival at the hospital.

This collision remains under investigation by the Garberville CHP Office and the Humboldt County Coroner’s Office.  Alcohol impairment does appear to be a factor in the collision.
