UPDATE, 1:43 p.m.: We just received an email from Heather’s stepmother Maggie Simas containing a bit of good news.
“I’m happy to report that the detective has located her in Honolulu and she is safe,” Maggie said. “My family and I want to thank you so much for posting the article today. We’re very appreciative of everyone who shared.”

Original Post: The Outpost was contacted by the stepmother of a local girl considered missing in Hawaii. Arcata High graduate Heather Simas moved to Pahoa on the Big Island of Hawaii a couple of months ago. Recently, she was exploring the area around Waikiki on the island of Oahu when she reported that she’d had numerous belongings stolen. After that, she has not been heard from. She was last seen on Sept. 3.
If anyone has any information on Heather’s whereabouts, they are encouraged to contact detective Mike Garcia with the Honolulu Police Department at 808-723-3670. A description follows:

- Weight: 125 lbs
