In the last hour, a vegetation fire sprouted up and was quickly extinguished in the Redway area, just up the street from the SoHum California Highway Patrol offices on West Coast Road.
Calfire, along with the Garberville and Redway fire departments, responded to the incident. The fire was contained at about half an acre in size.
Calfire Battalion Chief Laura Coleman tells the Outpost that one structure — believed to be a residence — was initially threatened by the fire, but fire crews neutralized the threat upon arriving. Aircraft were briefly ordered to support on-the-ground crews, but were canceled when it became apparent that firefighters had the thing under control
The cause of the fire has not yet been determined.
