Press release from the Eureka Police Department:

In 2014, the Eureka Police Department was approved to use funds from a California Office of Traffic Safety (OTS) grant to purchase a new DUI Checkpoint Trailer. The new trailer has been delivered and is ready to be put to use.

The new trailer is replacing the old trailer which was also purchased with an OTS grant back in 1998. The new trailer is a self-contained mobile operations center, holds all equipment, and has additional lighting to better safeguard the officers in and around the checkpoint area.

DUI Checkpoints are designed to be a highly publicized deterrent to steer people away from driving impaired or while unlicensed. The Eureka Police Department plans to hold at least two DUI Checkpoints during the upcoming grant year which runs October 1, 2015 through September 30, 2016.
