A young man was shot and killed around 10 p.m. last night in Eureka’s Hammond Park.
Eureka Police Chief Andy Mills said his department is looking for several persons of interest involved in the shooting.
“There were some young people in the park, and some words were exchanged,” Mills said. “Shortly after, some shots were fired and one kid ran off onto the basketball court. He was transported to the hospital where he died of a gunshot wound.”
Mills said it is too early in the investigation to determine if the shooting was gang related.
Information will be updated as it comes in.
