CHP press release: 

On April 16th, at approximately 2053 hours, Party #1 (Jon Doe) (P-1) was walking in an unknown direction on US-101 southbound south of Herrick Avenue in the #1 lane wearing dark clothing. Party #2 (Cady) (P-2) was driving Vehicle #2 (Nissan) (V-2) on southbound US-101 south of Herrick Avenue in the #1 lane at approximately 75 mph. The left front end of V-2 collided with P-1 in the #1 lane of US-101 southbound south of Herrick Avenue. P-2 drove V-2 on the the right shoulder and waited for emergency personnel. As a result of the collision, P-1 sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene. P-2 sustained minor injuries and was treated and released at the scene. 

The southbound lanes of US-101 at the scene were closed for approximately 40 minutes while the collision was being investigated. P-2 was found not to be under the influence of alcohol or drugs. The California Highway Patrol Humboldt area is investigating this collision.

A pedestrian was struck and killed by a vehicle on the southbound side of Highway 101 last night near the Herrick onramp.

Humboldt Bay Batallion Chief Kent Hulbert said emergency personnel received a report of a man down in the roadway at 10:57 p.m. Two engines, multiple California Highway Patrol officers, an ambulance and the coroner responded to the scene.

Caltrans temporarily shut down both southbound lanes as CHP investigated the scene.

The victim was reported to be a man. No other descriptions of the victim are available tat this time.

The driver was contacted by CHP, and suffered minor injuries due to a broken windshield.
