Just this morning we wrote about how local law enforcement agencies, like many producers and consumers of what we loosely call “news,” have lately been bypassing the middleman and talking to one another directly, making a mockery of the media’s ability to mediate. When we wrote that, even we hadn’t envisioned anything like the streak that the Fortuna Police Department would go on today. In the space of a couple of hours, the FOPD live-Facebooked two arrests from the field. In the first, posted at 10:53 a.m., officers arrested Richard William Matusak, 31, of McKinleyville on a range of domestic abuse charges, including false imprisonment and preventing a victim from calling police.

Then, at 12:43 p.m., another FOPD Facebook post described the arrest of a suspected shoplifter — Brian Taylor, age 41, also of McKinleyville.
