Valles.

The Outpost sends its felicitations across the freeway, over to the wrong side of town, down Sixth Street and into the famous Times-Standard newstomb to congratulate Marc Valles on his ascendancy into the managing editorship!

Valles — whose name rhymes with “alimentary canals,” and is not pronounced in the Spanish fashion — takes over from former managing-editor-for-life Kim Wear, who decamped to the North Coast Journal last month. He has been the paper’s assistant managing editor for five years.

Valles is stoked!

We’ll be asking Humboldt County readers what their standard is, and we’re going to beat it,” he wrote to the readers of the Times-Standard’s website, which can be found at www.times-standard.com. ”It’s going to be a blast.”

Rumors that management of the once-daily Humboldt County newspaper had interviewed other candidates for the job had recently reached Outpost ears, and so there was some concern that the megalithic Digital First Media, the T-S’s laughably named parent corporation, would screw this up, as it screws up most things. Thankfully, this fear turned out to be unfounded.

“I’m very confident that under Marc’s leadership our excellent newsroom staff of photographers, reporters and editors will excel,” said Times-Standard publisher Paula Patton in a statement today, still proudly employing the plural in all three categories mentioned.

Peach-ginger bellinis all around! Here are some flowers for Marc:
