Just before 6 p.m. this evening, the Eureka Police Department attempted to pull over a man driving down C Street. According to Officer Greg Hill, who spoke to the Outpost afterward, an automated license plate reader mounted on a patrol car had recognized the automobile he was driving as stolen out of Southern California.

The man fled the stop, driving erratically and at a high rate of speed. Police broke off the chase, but the man ended up crashing into another moving vehicle and a parked car while attempting to make a turn onto Fourth. He then took off on foot.

The guy wound up near the corner of Third and A, where he scaled a cyclone fence at Rocky’s Offroad. Police caught up to him and took him into custody at gunpoint. An ambulance was called, and according to the Outpost’s Andrew Goff, who was on-scene, an employee came in and unlocked the gate so as to the let the suspect and the officers out of their yard. The suspect was then loaded into an ambulance and taken away with a possible dislocated shoulder sustained in the crash.
