The Arcata Fire District shared this video of local firefighters approaching the Tully fire to its Facebook page last night.

The footage, filmed on Monday, shows firefighters driving through the scorched wilderness off of Highway 169 northwest of Weitchpec as they arrive on scene.

As of this morning, the blaze is 25 percent contained and has been reduced to 571 acres in size.

Calfire reports on its website that the fire has destroyed three structures and threatened some 40 others. However, firefighters have since lifted any mandatory evacuations in the area.

“Firefighters worked through the night reinforcing control lines and mopping up interior portions of the fire. Extending control lines was difficult due to the steep terrain and hazards presented by falling trees and rolling material,” the Calfire report reads. “Damage assessments have been completed. An additional residential structure has been discovered, raising the total number of structures destroyed by the Tully Fire to three; two residential structures and one outbuilding.”

The cause of the fire is arson. The Yurok Tribe is asking for the public’s help in catching the arsonist. One home and outbuilding were destroyed. Calfire believes that they can have this thing fully contained by this time next week.
