Dave Jackson
-1942-2016-

David Jackson was born in November of 1942 and was an only child. Dave was raised in Eureka and lived most of his 73 years in the house where he grew up. In his younger years, Dave enjoyed racing motorcycles. He loved to reminisce about the days he spent squirreling around on a motorcycle in the mud with his buddies.

Dave was raised with a very strong work ethic. He worked many different jobs, taking the time to become as well informed as he possible for each and every task he encountered. He was a bag boy at a grocery store, where he was taught the best customer service skills and he practiced them for the rest of his life. I remember him saying, “My boss always said, you need to learn every customer’s name.”

After his work in the grocery world he tried his hand at commercial fishing and he had many tales of his exploits with his fellow fishermen. He later moved on to work in the warehouse of Eureka Supply until their closure in 1987. From there, Dave came to work at Thrifty Supply Company where he spent 29 years helping local plumbing and building contractors get the job done. Dave was loyal and dedicated to his job, working six days a week, always the first one in and the last one out, rarely taking a sick day or a vacation day. If you had the pleasure of dealing with Dave, you knew he would exhaust all options to provide his customers with the best service.

Dave was a little mischievous and had a great sense of humor. He knew how to make people smile and laugh. Dave had a great love for animals. Any pooch that came through the door knew they could count on Dave for a treat. Dave enjoyed playing the stock market and he proved to be quite successful, having a knack for picking winners. Dave also enjoyed experimenting in the kitchen, making some of the best blue cheese dressing around.

Dave was preceded in death by his parents, and the love of his life, Amanda Christine (Chris) Sanchez. Dave is survived by Chris’ mother Bertha Yost, her sons Collin Colby and David Flynn, her sister Bertha Sanchez, and we can not forget to mention Mocha and Canella, Dave’s canine companions. We will all miss Dave.

Friends and customers are invited to attend a celebration of Dave’s life Wednesday, August 10th from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Thrifty Supply Company. Lunch will be served and there will be a lot of time to remember our friend.
