UPDATE, 2:15 p.m.:
Caltrans reports that the detour is delaying motorists by less than 10 minutes. Check out these photos of the slide provided by Caltrans.
###
A torrent of rock and/or mud spilled down onto Highway 101 in the middle of the night just north of Piercy, shutting the highway “until at least 2 p.m.,” according to CHP dispatch.
But this time the road-closing slide happened in the most fortuitous of places, because Caltrans can just shift traffic over to Highway 271, the miniature Avenue of the Giants between Cooks Valley and Piercy, while crews clear the slide. They’re saying that you can mentally add a “minor amount of time” to your scheduled trip south.
