Eureka police are out in force in the area just north of the Eureka Mall this afternoon, after getting a 911 call from a person who said they came home to find their home being broken into.
Police have been looking for the presumed suspect in the case, who the victim describes as being 17 or 18 years old, dressed all in black and possibly armed with a short-barreled shotgun.
The Winzler Children’s Center, a preschool between Henderson and Creighton streets, went on lockdown while police cleared the area.
An evidence technician has been summoned to the area — specifically, to the community garden nearby. We’ll update when we know more.
