The stabbing victim seemed surprisingly upbeat, giving LoCO a thumbs up as he was loaded into the ambulance.

One person was hospitalized due to an apparent stab wound from an altercation that occurred in Old Town Eureka today on 3rd Street.

Humboldt Bay Fire and the Eureka Police Department responded to the report of a man suffering from a stab wound near the St. Vincent de Paul food bank around 4:15 p.m.

J&L Towing Owner Jon Delv said the victim was dropped off at his business by a group of transients.

“They brought the guy up to us from down the street, dropped him off and said call for an ambulance,” Delv said. “Supposedly the guy who did it was wearing a yellow rain jacket.”

Police were still searching for the suspect as the victim was being loaded into the ambulance.

Delv said he sees crime happen in front of his business on a regular basis.

“There’s altercations here every day, my wife sees knives pulled on people almost every day,” Delv said. “We have to live [at the tow yard.] If we didn’t, we’d be broken into every night.”

We will update when we receive more information.
