Wesley Ray Smith is the son of Paul Brooke and Kay Frances (Bass) Russell. He was born July 28, 1966 in Bakersfield, California. He was found dead in his jeep from a diabetic coma in Eureka, California on December 9, 2015.

He graduated from Desert Wind High School, Lancaster, California, May 1984 and served in the US Navy from October 7, 1986 to September 16, 1993.

He was medically and honorably discharged because of a broken pelvic, hip and femur at Olongapo City, Philippines. This occurred because he was run off the road by a jeepney while cruising on his Harley-Davidson.  He last served as an Operational Specialist 3rd Class aboard the USS Sterett (CG-31) while home ported at U.S. Subic Bay Naval Base, Philippines.

While living in San Leandro in 1999, he worked as a crew member at Noah’s Bagels. He was an custodial ambassador at Humboldt State University from April 2001 to July 2007.

He worked toward his master degree in Psychology from 1995-1998 at the College of the Redwoods.

He was always one to lend a helping hand to those in need. Always giving of himself.

He is survived by his son Ezrah Robert Sullivan of Eureka; his mother Kay Frances Smith of Redding, California; sister Judy Irene Russell of Porterville, California; brother Frederick Keith Smith of Hayward, California. His uncle and aunt Robert and Maria Smith of Bakersfield, California, as well as other relatives and friends. 

He was preceded in death by his father, and his step father Lloyd Wesley Smith.

Inurnment to be at the Northern California Veterans Cemetery, 11800 Gas Point Road, Igo, California during “Welcome Home!” Vietnam Veterans Day.
