From the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office:

On Friday, January 15, 2016 at approximately 11:50 p.m. a Humboldt County Deputy Sheriff observed a vehicle matching the description of a stolen vehicle traveling on Myrtle Ave, Eureka. The white Jeep Wrangler was involved in a vehicle pursuit earlier that evening with the Arcata Police Department. The vehicle had prior damage from the earlier pursuit and only had three working wheels. The deputy attempted a traffic stop, however the vehicle accelerated in an attempt to evade the deputy.

The pursuit continued and the suspect vehicle ran over street signs on Myrtle Ave at 7th St. The suspect vehicle eventually collided with a parked vehicle at O Street and 7th Street. The driver, 45 year old Brian Miller, of Redway, fled on foot. The deputy pursued on foot commanding the suspect to stop or he would be Tased. Miller continued to run and ignored the deputy’s verbal warnings to stop. The Taser was deployed but was not effective. Miller continued to flee but soon tripped and fell to the ground. The deputy apprehended Miller, who sustained minor injuries from the fall.

Miller was taken to a local hospital and treated for his minor injuries. Miller was transported to the Humboldt County Correctional Facility where he was booked for vehicle theft, evading a peace officer in an unsafe manner, hit and run, resisting arrest, and buying or receiving stolen property. His bail has been set at $50,000.
