Jim died peacefully in his home on Dec. 26, 2015 at the age of 72. He was a beloved father, step-father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend. Jim was born in Longview, Washington on September 8, 1943. He was the oldest child of 12. Jim moved to California at age 13 to live with his father, Richard Hollis and stepmother, Louise Hollis, where he lived the remainder of his life.

Jim worked in the trucking industry all of his life. He worked for Chub Nunnemaker and Hensell Materials before going into business for himself in the late 1970s as Jim Hollis Trucking. He was loved and respected by all. At the memorial service, many fellow truckers told stories about how he was considered a legend because of his hard work ethic.

He was known for his love of cars, trucks, races, boxing, his quick wit and sense of humor.

Jim is survived by his daughter, Tracy Hart, who has lived in Georgia the past 23 years but came home for Christmas (the first Christmas in 21 years) when he passed away. He had stepsons who he loved and raised as his own, Merle and Les Pickrell. His ex-wife, Pat and him remained close with for the remainder of his life. He is also survived by his brothers, Fred, Gary and Rick Hollis, his sisters, Diana Freeman, Linda Wilson and Peggy Hollis, and step-siblings, Bob, Nancy and Dan Karr.

He was preceded in death by his father, Richard Hollis, his mother, Pauline Byrd, his sister, Laura Hollis and stepbrother, Bill Karr. Jim loved his grandchildren, Emilee and Zach Hart, Brooke Culver, Jesika, Isabella, Vanessa, Tyler and Cason Pickrell. He also had numerous nieces and nephews.

A very special thank you to Todd Freeman, Jim’s nephew, who cared for Jim during his final days.

The family also wishes to thank everyone who attended services held at Sanders Funeral Home on Dec. 30 and the celebration of life that followed at Jim’s house.

Jim will truly be missed by all who knew him.

Keep on Truckin’.
