A 50-year-old man was hospitalized after being being slashed with a knife-like weapon — possibly a machete — in front of Joe’s Deli in Hoopa this morning, according the the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office.

The suspect in the case — Cody Lee Meyers, who was born in 1987 — is at large. The Sheriff’s Office’s Lt. Wayne Hanson told the Outpost this afternoon that Meyers is believed to reside in the Loleta area. 

Hanson said the victim is currently is serious but stable condition. It is not currently known what lead to the assault.

More information on the case will be released later, Hanson said. Cody Lee Meyers is wanted for attempted homicide. The Sheriff’s Office asks anyone with information about his whereabouts to call (707) 445-7251.
