A Humboldt County SWAT team raided a downtown Arcata apartment complex in the wee hours of dawn this morning, resulting in the arrest of one person under mysterious circumstances.
Just before 6 a.m., a multitude of heavily armed police officers — captured in the above photo, which was submitted by a reader — swarmed a unit of Arcata’s Fairview Apartments, on the 800 500 block of H Street. One person was arrested.
The raid was prompted by an ongoing investigation out of San Diego, according to Capt. Brian Stephens of the Eureka Police Department, whose Problem Oriented Policing division assisted law enforcement agencies from the south in developing information to obtain the warrant.
Stephens said that the person arrested was taken on fresh charges, rather than anything that pertained directly to the search warrant. He declined to say anything else about the case, as it is not an EPD-led investigation.
Whatever it is, it appears to be big. Stephens said that the San Diego County District Attorney will hold a press conference on the case Monday, at which point more information will become available.
