Shortly after 10 a.m., Humboldt Bay Fire responded to the intersection of Del Norte and B Streets in Eureka where a trailer had burst into flames between two homes. The first units to respond found the trailer fully engulfed in flames. Firefighters were able to extinguish the blaze before it could spread to the nearby houses.
“Thankfully we were able to catch it pretty quick,” said Humboldt Bay Fire Battalion Chief Chris Jelinek. No one was inside the trailer, and there’s no indication the fire was intentional, he added. Humboldt Bay Fire folks did find someone sleeping in one of the adjacent houses, roughly five feet away, Jelinek said.
The heat broke a window and damaged the paint on the blue house pictured above, but the flames did not spread. Humboldt Bay Fire will investigate the cause of the fire, Jelinek said.
