From the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office:

On Sunday, March 13, 2016 at about 5:15 a.m., a Humboldt County Deputy Sheriff was driving in the rain on HWY 101 near Miranda when their patrol vehicle hydroplaned and spun off the road. The vehicle’s trunk hit a tree after it spun off of the road and continued down an embankment. Once the vehicle came to a complete stop, the deputy reported the incident and was able to safely climb out of the vehicle. The deputy was not injured during the incident. California Highway Patrol (CHP) is investigating the accident.

The Sheriff’s Office would remind everyone to take extra caution when driving in wet and windy weather. If you see debris in the roadway, please contact Public Works or CHP, as this may lead to vehicle collisions as well. Public Works may be contacted at 707-445-7421. CHP can be reached at (707) 268-2000.
