Early this morning, Arcata emergency personnel received a report of a possible structure fire on Hallen Drive, off Valley East Boulevard. Multiple engines were sent to the scene, along with an ambulance.

When firefighters arrived, they found a kitchen fire in an upstairs apartment. Smoke visible from the outside. According to Arcata Fire Captain Alex Manousos, though, the fire had been confined to an oven, and the occupant of the apartment had extinguished it with a wet towel.

Firefighters placed a large fan in the apartment to air it out, and checked the resident for signs of smoke inhalation on the scene. He didn’t require any more medical aid, and the ambulance was sent home.
