Patty Chapman was born Patricia Ann Hadley on February 4, 1953, in Eureka.  She passed away suddenly on the family ranch she and her husband operate on Monday, February 29, 2016.  As a lifelong resident of Humboldt County, she attended Eureka Schools, graduating from Eureka Senior High in 1971.  She attended College of the Redwoods, studying accounting and bookkeeping.

In 1977, she married Jerry Chapman, and together they raised three children.

Throughout her life, Patty was a remarkable seamstress, creating exquisitely made clothing, especially special occasion dresses, for herself and others.  Since taking responsibility for running the ranch in the Mattole Valley, she and her husband have been raising purebred beef cattle and are active members in the registered Limousin Cattle Association, and in the cattle community.

She is survived by her husband of 39 years, Jerry Chapman; children Jason, Peter (Sarah) and Christina; mother Christine Hadley; sisters Sue (Bill) Poe and Bonnie Hadley; sister-in-law Sharon (Lyle) Brown; grandchildren Spencer and Cody Chapman; six nieces and countless friends.

She was preceded in death by her father Leland Hadley; brothers Leslie and Robert; in-laws Warren “Buzz” and Charlotte Chapman.

She was taken from us far too soon, and will be missed by so many.  A memorial service is planned for Sunday, March 6 at 2:00pm at the Monday Club, 610 Main Street in Fortuna.
