Stacey Williams Weaver returned to the arms of her maker on March 4, 2016 at her home in Arcata.
Stacey Williams was born to Richard Settle Williams and Mary Elizabeth Coleman on October 5, 1954 in Evanston, Illinois. Her earliest years were spent in Illinois, after which her family moved to Marin County in Northern California, where she began high school. Shortly thereafter she met and married Edward Weaver Senior. She was a devoted and loving wife for over 36 years. Together they raised ten children, five boys and five girls.
Stacey was a woman of brilliant intellect, which she used to propel her personal abilities to levels that could have been impossible for one who was not classically trained. She used her unchained curiosity to educate herself in the arts, in which she was highly accomplished. She was an excellent chef who could create a table no king would reject. Doll clothes, dresses, quilts, backpacks … an accomplished seamstress, she could create anything with beauty and ease.
Much of her time she gave to lovingly mothering her children installing vast knowledge, wisdom and ethics. Stacey opened her heart and door to many children that were not hers, biologically, and loved them as her own. She was guided by the Golden Rule, “Do unto others as you would have others do unto you.”
Her joy in life was a result of the joy she brought into the lives of others. Like the vast flower garden she nurtured into being, so she nurtured those around her to grow and reach beyond their full potential to be the very best that they could be. She had a magnetic personality that captivated the attention of those around her, which she amplified and showered back on them, so that whoever was in her presence felt included, loved, and important, like they were the most important person. She was far beyond generous. She believed in sharing, and even if she didn’t have much it truly brought her joy to share what she did have, to help another or just to see a smile.
She believed in fairness and justice above all. She did not believe in doing what was easy, but bravely fought for what was right. Guided by unwavering strength of character and conviction to action, she was triumphant in the face of adversity, leaving a lasting impression on all. Her warmth will be felt from heaven. She will be dearly missed.
She is survived by: ten children, Enid Mary Weaver, Preston Doyle Weaver, Autumn Rose Weaver, Beth Elise Weaver, William Edward Weaver (Mariya Kovalyova Weaver), Russell Mahlon Weaver, Edward Arnold Weaver Junior, Roselyn Marie Weaver (Michael Harbell), Helen Jeanette Weaver (Loran Briggs) and Richard Neal Weaver; her nine grandchildren, Kaiden and Haley Scanlon, Jesse Weaver and Amber Ilgunas, Shelby and Emma Weaver, Benjamin Weaver-Osburn, Matthew Leonardo Weaver, Theodore Loran Briggs; her only sister, Sally Williams Pena and many loving unnamed family and friends too numerous to list.
In keeping with her spirit of benevolence, family and friends that loved and cared for her are invited to attend funeral services at Christ Episcopal Church, 625 15th Street, Eureka, at 11 a.m. on Saturday, May 14. The reception will immediately follow the funeral in Lewis Hall at the church. A private (immediate family only) burial will take place at Greenwood Cemetery, 1757 J Street, Arcata, after funeral services.
