An example of a handgun-looking BB gun available for purchase on Amazon

On Thursday, May 26, at about 11:10 a.m., the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office and the California Highway Patrol (CHP) received a call from the Hoopa Valley Tribe’s School Resource Officer (SRO) requesting assistance for the report of a student with a handgun at Hoopa Valley High School. It was reported the 14 year old juvenile suspect fled off campus after being chased by the SRO.

The schools in the area were put on lockdown. Officers searched the area and were able to detain the juvenile and later located the handgun. The handgun was determined to be a BB gun. This incident will be handled by Hoopa Valley Tribal Court.
