A number of McKinleyville residents woke up to cars with spray painted hoods and bashed out windows this morning, after a string of overnight vandalism.

Kerri Patterson Ellis reposrts that the same tagging painted on her neighbor’s van above, was also sprayed on her daughter’s car last night.

At least two cars were tagged with the letters “VDT” in red spray paint last night, while at least three other Mack residents report they their car windows were broken.

Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office PIO Selena Zorrilla-Mendoza told the Outpost that one 14-year-old McKinleyville resident was arrested at 1 a.m. for smashing out a car window on Cobblestone Road this morning.

“We’re still investigating if he’s responsible for other ones,” Zorrilla-Mendoza said.

Upon arresting the teen, officers found him to be in possession of a flashlight, hammer, and broken shards of porcelain, tools commonly used in burglaries.

McKinleyville resident Dan Pambianco also told the Outpost via Facebook that the back windows of his daughter’s Rav4, and her track teammates’ truck also had their windows broken out. The cars were parked overnight in the McKinleyville high school student parking lot while the two were away competing in their final track meet before the state championships.

“My mistake for not picking it up and bringing it home last night as usual,” Pambianco said. “There’s a hole busted in the rear window. No spray paint, and they didn’t actually get in.”

Zorrilla-Mendoza said that the Sheriff’s Office has received at least five incidents of vandalism since Monday. However, she said that some incidents may have gone unreported, or were classified under a different crime.
