May B. Wright, local potter, died peacefully at her home in Trinidad at the age of 80 on April 29.

May is survived by her daughter and son-in-law Alicia and Richard Garcia, five grandchildren and two step-grandchildren — Elinor, Sheerah and her husband Matthew, Sanford, Adrianne, Samantha, Jasmine, and Zac – and many greaet-grandchildren, as well as her two cats, Phantom and Shadow.

She was preceded in death by her parents Edna and Clarence Harvey Schufeldt, her brother Larry Schufeldt, husband Stanley Wright, son Anthony Wright and great-grandchild Dean Blasingame.

May was born May 11, 1935 in Hyannis, Nebraska. She attended a boarding high school at Curtis, Nebraska, where she met lifelong friends. She graduated from College of the Redwoods with an AA Degree in 1988. There she learned pottery, which became her artistic outlet and passion.

She married Stanley Wright on Aug. 25, 1953. After retirement she and her daughter and son-in-law became local potters who are well known in Humboldt County and Nebraska.

May was a member of Eastern Star and a memorial is scheduled for 11 a.m. on May 22, 2016 at the Six Rivers Masonic Lodge in Arcata at 251 Bayside Road with reception to follow at her home in Trinidad. All are welcome to attend and celebrate May’s life.
