Rick Neves passed away at the age of 57 on Sunday, October 30th, 2016, surrounded by love, with his two daughters at his side.

Rick was born on August 26, 1959 in Sacramento to Robert and Beverly Neves. Growing up he was a cub and boy scout and during his elementary school years he enjoyed playing baseball with his two brothers Ron and Steve, coached by their father.

When he was young he would get into all types of shenanigans with his brothers. One fond memory his brothers enjoy sharing with him is when it would rain and they would round up all the neighborhood kids to play mud football in the local elementary school field. They would all get so mudded up their mother would not let them in the house.

Rick attended Elk Grove and Daylor High School and during his teenage years he worked for his parents at their many restaurants.

Throughout his life Rick enjoyed fishing with his father, camping with his family, cooking, deer hunting and crabbing.

After high school he went to work for Union Pacific Railroad. In 1983 he was introduced to his previous wife Sonja and they were married and started their family in 1986. They went on to have two beautiful daughters, Ashley and Amber.

Rick later relocated to Humboldt County in 1997 and was a log truck driver for long time childhood friend Steve Wills at his trucking company for approximately 10 years until he was injured on the job.

Above all, Rick enjoyed being a father. His mother can remember asking him what he wanted to be when he grew up, and he responded, “a daddy.”

Rick’s daughters share many fond memories with their dad including: cooking Thanksgiving dinners together, crazy black Friday shopping, and introducing him to the Twilight Saga movies.

Rick’s daughters will remember him for his sense of humor, his dance moves in the car, his bluntness and ability to always find the good in people.

He is preceded in death by his father, Robert Neves.

He is survived by his two daughters, Ashley and Amber; his mother, Beverly; two brothers, Ron and Steve; and many nieces and nephews and good friends.

The family would like to thank the Nurses and Staff of Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital for taking such wonderful care of their father during his final days.

There will be a celebration of life for Rick on Sunday, November 13 at Goble’s Fortuna Mortuary at 1:30 pm with a reception to follow at the Fortuna Fire Hall.
