What’s Halloween without orange and black, costumes, decorations and a good scare? This LoCO video report is going to bring you a behind the scenes look at not just a haunted house, but a haunted kinetic laboratory.
You can call it a homegrown horror. Created by local kinetic sculpture race celebrities and born in Arcata. The Haunted Kinetic Lab of Horrors is a fundraiser that helps the racers keep their gears greased and go “for the glory” year after year.
“This will be our 11th year of doing this event and we’ve been at this location for 20 years. And for all those years we’ve had to pay the bills. So this is the best thing we can think of because we love doing it,” said Lab Member, Ken Beidleman.
We’re guided through the haunted halls, where more than 20 people will be operating mechanical monsters or sliding through secret doors ready to petrify participants.
The kinetic crew has fabricated all sorts of frights and is the epitome of resourcefulness. There’s intricate set design, special effects, props, moving floors and walls and creepy characters out the yin-yang. But no spoiler alerts.
“There’s definitely going to be some relevant humor, dark humor. I think it’s also not as predictable as people might think. You think you know, you’re not going to know,” said event director Jenny Weiss.
