UPDATE: 1:28 p.m.: APD: Arcata Man Found on Footpath on Top of 12-Year-Old Girl by Parent
# # #
This morning, at just about drop-off time, an Arcata Elementary School parent wrote us:
Hey guys have you heard anything about the police presence at the end of Baldwin Street in Arcata across from Arcata Elementary?
I swore I heard the officers discussing [redacted]. The rumors are flying around the school that a homeless person died
The parents are all on edge. The school is talking.
The Outpost reached out to Arcata Police Chief Tom Chapman, who said he was unable to comment much on this story at the moment.
But he did say that the case was a “serious” one, and that Arcata Police had taken one person into custody for assault at the scene this morning. No one died at the scene, Chapman said, and the school is not on lockdown.
Chapman said that more information on the incident will be released later today.
The parent who reached out to us said he understands that the school will be sending a note about the incident home with children today.
We’ll update when we know more.
