A number of people have contacted us about an incident on the 1400 block of Murray Road in McKinleyville last night at about 5 p.m. We saw some posts about it on Facebook, too. Word seemed to be that some kind of home invasion had occurred, or almost occurred.

That was not the case, apparently. Sheriff’s Office spokesperson Selena Zorrilla-Mendoza assures us that there no home had been invaded — rather, it was a dispute between a man and a woman, during which the man brandished a firearm. The firearm turned out to be of interest.

Zorrilla-Mendoza writes:

The Sheriff’s Office was called for a report of a man with a gun at a residence on the 1400 block of Murray Rd. Deputies arrived on scene and secured the firearm. Deputies spoke with the male and female involved parties separately.

Through the course of the investigation, deputies determined the firearm was stolen from Pacific Outfitters.

The parties were separated. The investigation is ongoing. Any witnesses to this event are asked to contact Deputy Keating at 707-445-7251.
