Rose was born April 10, 1938, to Oral and Cassie Farris in Lime Stone, Arkansas. She passed away peacefully on April 24, 2017 in Eureka. She moved to Arcata in 1958.

Rose retired after 30 years from the Arcata School District as the supervisor for the Food Service Program. She watched thousands of children grow up and showed compassion for those less fortunate. In addition, she worked at other local restaurants, including Bim’s, V&N Burger Bar and several others.

Rose was an avid supporter of youth sports and music programs. She also loved bingo and going to Reno, but her greatest joy was being a grandmother.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 54 years, Boyd W. Kirby; son Steven; and brothers Lee Roy, Gene and Quintin. She is survived by her daughter Karen Kirby; grandchildren Jessica, Joshua, Kevin, Chelsea and Greg; great-grandson, Eli; brothers Dale (April), David, Paul; and sisters Sarah (Bob) Ranger, Geneva, Barbra, Shirley, Janet; and Joan; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

A special thank-you to the kind and helpful staff at Granada Rehabilitation, St Joseph Hospital, and to Dale and April Farris for their countless hours of help and support. The best brother anyone could ever ask for.

A graveside service will be held Monday, May 1, 2017, at 1 p.m., in Arcata, at Greenwood Cemetery. Immediately following there will be a small gathering at the McKinleyville Moose Lodge.
