Joyce Braun
Jan. 8, 1927-July 26, 2017

Strong, Sarcastic, Unflappable, Independent, Witty, Honest, Faithful, Feisty, Chocolate Lover, Sassy, Grounded, Direct, Grandma, Gigi, Mom. These are the words used to describe our beloved mother when asked by family and friends.

Joyce was born Jan. 8,1927 and left this earth on July 26, 2017 at the age of 90.

Joyce spent her younger days traveling to many places as a Navy wife. She lived in San Diego for several years, and eventually settled in Fortuna for the last 45. Her favorite place to camp and picnic was Grizzly Creek. This past Mother’s Day we were able to take her there for one last picnic.  She held various jobs including at J.C.Penneys, and also spent many years as an Avon Lady. Her favorite job was as a SCOP volunteer for the Fortuna Police Department, which she did for many years. She enjoyed family get-togethers and her grandchildren. She loved talking politics, and in her opinion she was always right.

Joyce’s life was not very easy, but she always kept going despite her challenges. She is the strongest person we all know.

Joyce is survived by her children Sharon, Gary, Kathleen and Carlene. She was preceded in death by her son Larry. She is survived by her grandchildren, Oran, Erick, Kali, Cary, Mike, Judd, Matt, Zak, Katie, Blake, Kyle and Trevor, her 17 great-grandchildren and her good friends Imogene and Rod.  We would like to thank the staff at Fortuna Rehab for their excellent care, especially Sarah, Lisa, Holly, Josh, and her beloved Charles, who was holding her hand as she passed.

A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, Aug. 5 at 4 pm at the Fortuna Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.
