From the California Highway Patrol:

At approximately 11:29 p.m., Darlene Nancy Johannsen, age 60, of Eureka was driving her 2000 Honda CRV southbound on Walnut Drive, South of Hurst Road at approximately 40 miles per hour. A teenage juvenile pedestrian, of Eureka was running in an easterly direction from the west, residentially lined road onto Walnut Drive.
