A large number of Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office deputies and California Highway Patrol vehicles have been parked on the east side of the highway near Bracut for most of the day, dealing with a person who appears to be suicidal.
Rampant rumors that the man in question had a hostage are false, as the Sheriff’s Office was finally prompted to tweet:
1/18/17 11:43 a.m. - LE personnel out with a subject @ a res. on the 4000 block of Hwy 101, Bayside. No hostages. Updates to follow.

The man is alone and in a trailer by himself, officers at the scene told the Outpost’s Andrew Goff. Mental health professionals had been called in.
“We are just waiting it out to make sure everyone is safe,” Officer Darron Drefke of the CHP told the Outpost’s Andrew Goff at the scene.
