Fortuna Police Department press release:

On July 13, 2017 at approximately 2:10 am, Officers with the Fortuna Police Department responded to the 900 Block of Main Street for the report of a Burglary in Progress.

Upon Officers arrival on scene they observed signs of forced entry to the front door of the business. Officers heard movement to the rear of the business and as they went to check the back of the business a subject ran from the back of the business and got into a waiting vehicle in the 700 block of 9th Street.

The vehicle seen was a Black Dodge Charger last seen headed westbound on N Street.

Officers attempted to catch up to the vehicle and were unsuccessful.
A search of the inside of the business showed that several items had been moved but, due to the quick reporting by a citizen and the quick response by officers it is unknown if any items from the business were taken.

While Officers were processing the scene for evidence, a citizen called and stated that a Black Charger was parked in his driveway. Officers responded and confirmed that the vehicle was the same vehicle that was seen leaving the scene of the burglary.

The vehicle was towed and stored for evidence.
