From the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office:

On 07-19-17 at about 1324 hrs deputies were dispatched to the Tegtmiers area of the Trinity River for a report of a vehicle burglary that had just occurred. This is a well-known swimming/sunbathing area down river from the town of Willow Creek. The area is also known as the Devil’s Elbow to tourists.

Deputies arrived with 5 minutes and located the victim’s vehicle with a shattered window. The victim reported seeing the suspect still in the area. Deputies located the suspect who ran from the area. The deputies chased the suspect down a steep embankment and into heavy brush. Due to the terrain the deputies lost sight of the suspect and terminated the foot pursuit. While searching for the suspect deputies located what is believed to property stolen from the victim’s vehicle. The victim left the area before deputies could hike back to the parking lot. The suspect is described as a darker complected male, 5’8” to 5’ 10”, 170-190 lbs, short brown hair, wearing a black T shirt and black shorts.
