Around a dozen law enforcement officers, many of them bearing semiautomatic weapons, have surrounded a Ferndale home this evening and have detained several people from inside.
Officers at the scene — representing the California Department of Fish and Wildlife, the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office, the Fortuna Police Department and possibly others — are not speaking with the press at the moment, so it’s unclear exactly what the raid is about.
It is clear, though, that law enforcement is treating it as a high-risk raid. Several officers are keeping a perimeter around the home — on Market Street, just north of Highway 211 — while others search inside. Several people have been handcuffed. Market Street has been closed to traffic.
We’ll update when we know more.
