From Caltrans:

Beginning Tuesday, August 1, 2017, full highway closures will begin on State Route 36, west of Dinsmore, in Humboldt County.  The Federal Highways Administration, in conjunction with Caltrans District 1 and Mercer-Frasier Company, recently began a project to realign and straighten curves on the highway between postmiles 36 and 40.

FULL HIGHWAY CLOSURES are planned to take place Monday through Friday, under the following schedule:

  • Monday through Thursday:  Closures will take place between 8 a.m. and 12 p.m., as well as between 1 p.m. and 5 p.m..
  • Friday:  Closures will take place between 8 a.m. and 12 p.m., as well as between 1 p.m. and 3 p.m.

Public traffic will only be allowed through between 12 p.m. and 1 p.m., Monday through Friday.  These full closures are anticipated to last until November 1, 2017.

Outside of the full highway closures, motorists can expect one-way traffic control with up to 30 minute delays in the area, including weekends.

State Route 299 can be used as an alternative route during the project, where motorists may experience minimal delays.
