Joe passed away at home in the early evening of July 20. He was surrounded by his family sharing wonderful memories of lives spent together. Joe worked for the County of Humboldt in the Employment Training Division for 34 years, retiring in 2009.

Joe loved dark chocolate, good coffee, backpacking and soccer throughout his life. He coached youth soccer in Eureka for many years and had the wonderful experience of encountering young men in the community who would stop and say hi to “coach Joe”. He was a 49ers season ticket holder and avid Fantasy Football player and was looking forward to the upcoming football season.

Joe is survived by his wife of almost 40 years, Lorraine, and his three wonderful sons, Kyle (Stephanie), Matt (Natalie), and Mike (Alisha). He loved and was proud of each of his boys. He leaves four beloved grandsons — Skyler, Ethan, Bryce and Finnian — as well as his honorary granddaughter, Amber. He is also survived by his sister, RoseMary, and his brother, John, as well as numerous nieces and nephews and their families. He will be greatly missed by his four-legged constant companions Sparky and Stella.

The family wishes to thank Dr. Abels, Drs. Pant and Choate, and Dr. Lin of UCSF for caring for him over the years.
