Wynema Wallin Freeman was born in Eastland, Texas on September 7, 1925 to Virgil and Mildred Wallin in the Texas oil fields. The family moved to San Jon, New Mexico where her dad farmed and in 1939 moved to Oakley, CA She graduated from Liberty High and attended George Pepperdine College for two years. She married Jason Freeman in 1946, the love of her life for 63 1/2 years. She worked as a secretary in the P.G.&E Office and Bank of America in Madera. They moved to Oakley where Jason built their home. They had six children: Anne & (Robert) Miller of Wallace, ID, Geanie & (Wayne) Stair of Redlands, Virgil & (Tessie) Freeman of Auburn, CA, Timothy & (Melody) Freeman of Redding, CA, Ginger & (Gene) Sarvinski of Ferndale, and Melody & (Randy) MacMillan of Carlotta.

She was preceded in death by her parents, a baby brother, two sisters — Frances Zimmer and Luciel Anello — her beloved grandson Brent MacMillan, and her wonderful husband Jason Freeman.

She was elected to every PTA office and was given an Honorary Life Membership in the PTA. She was a school teacher for eight years and a Brownie and Girl Scout leader for six years. She was a life-long member of the Church of Christ and taught Sunday School classes for over 40 years and ladies bible class for over 60 years She visited an assisted living facility weekly and read the bible to the blind and others. She often did ironing, cooked food, and other odd jobs for ailing shut-ins. She raised a garden and canned hundreds of quarts of fruits and vegetables. She made all of her and her daughters clothing and made quilts for her children, grandchildren and friends. Also embroidered tablecloths, tea towels, pillowcases, and baby blankets. She was an avid reader and worker of crossword puzzles, scrabble player, and loved all kinds of games with children, grandchildren, and friends.

Their home was always filled with young people and friends, and opened their home for people in need. Her family was her top priority — next to God.

Wynema was a substitute teacher, worked in registration at College of the Redwoods, and became Postmaster in Ferndale in 1974. The people of Ferndale were like family.

Besides her children, she is survived by her sister, Wanda & (John) Bristow of Morgan Hill, CA. Grandchildren Julia Hartwig of Las Vegas, NV, Timothy Stair of Beaumont, CA,Carly McJunkin, Oakland, CA, Jamie Stair, Oakland, CA, Jason Freeman, Palm Springs, CA, Jeremy Freeman, Bozeman, MT, Branden Freeman, Palm Springs, CA, Chris Farley, Redding, CA, Alissa, Casey, and Silas Sarvinski, Ferndale, CA, Ryann Peterson, Boise, ID, Amy, Lily, and Sierra MacMillan, Carlotta, CA. Great grandchildren Blake and Reed Norris, Las Vegas, NV, Reid and Hadleigh Stair, Beaumont, CA, Evelyn, Tabitha, and Paulina Farley, Redding, CA, Harper and Mac Peterson, Boise, ID. And many more nieces and nephews.

A Celebration of Wynema’s Life will be on June 10th at the Church of Christ in Eureka at 11:00. Reception to follow.
