Diane Elizabeth Lindquist (DeLaurier)
Born November 7, 1929 — Deceased June 13, 2017

Diane Lindquist passed away on Tuesday, June 13, 2017 after a long battle with Alzheimer’s/ Dementia. Diane was first and foremost a loving wife to James and mother to their five children, who all miss her sweet, loving spirit. She was the ultimate homemaker, mother and teacher for her children and a solid, loving presence for them to always turn to. Mom was known far and wide for her homemade bread (12 loaves every Wednesday) and delicious cookies, cakes, pies and best of all blackberry cobbler! She was her happiest in her role as caregiver for all children, especially babies, which were her absolute favorite!

Diane was born on Nov. 7, 1929 to Doris and Douglas DeLaurier in Fergus Falls, Minn. She was the oldest of 3 with her sister Frances and brother John respectively, and spent her childhood living in various towns and cities all over the Midwest as her father’s job required frequent relocation.

Diane graduated from high school in Canby, Minn. in 1947 and went on to the University of Minnesota, majoring in education with a minor in modern dance. While at the university she was an active member of Zeta Tau Alpha sorority and it was there that she met her future husband, James. Diane and James graduated from the University of Minnesota in 1951 and were married in January 1952 and promptly started their family. Theirs was a love story that is rare and special — they truly had eyes only for each other for the past 65 years.

Mom was a devoted member of her community and was active in numerous organizations including AAUW (American Association of University Women) P.E.O., Chapter RN, Arcata,, volunteer for the Election Board, Miranda’s Rescue Thrift Shop, and Hospice of Humboldt.

Diane is survived by her husband, James; brother John DeLaurier; children Frances Getty (Jeff), Thomas Lindquist (Julie), Jennifer Swift (Thomas), Jeffrey Lindquist, Thea Tucker (Brad); grandchildren Aron Getty (Secorra), Amanda Gurtler (Derek), Jonathan Bullock (Mae), Jennifer Simco (Patrick), James Lindquist (Lindsey), Clayton Swift, Tory Swift, Samantha Keuffler, (Drew) Emilie Lindquist, Rachel Sandberg-Lindquist, Christopher Tucker and Cameron Tucker; great-grandchildren: Isabella, Madelyn, Dale, Casey, Timothy, Summer, Vincent and two more on the way. She is also survived by her niece Janet Kraemer. She is predeceased by her parents, Doris and Douglas DeLaurier, and her sister Frances.

A private family memorial will be held at a later date (to be determined) and we will post an update on date, time and location, and to any who knew Diane. Please know you are welcome to attend. We are extremely grateful for all the love, support and tender care that our beloved mom received during her final years and days, especially Dr. Christopher Lee, the nurses and doctors at Hospice of Humboldt and the entire staff at Timber Ridge Renaissance, McKinleyville, Thank you all!

Donations in Diane’s name can be made to Hospice of Humboldt or a charity of your choice.
