David Lee
Dukeman, age 71, of Eureka, passed away peacefully in his
home on Sunday, May 21, 2017, surrounded by his wife and sons, after a
battle with lung cancer.
David was born September 12, 1945 in Pensacola, Florida, to Walter and Elizabeth Dukeman, where his father was stationed with the US Air Force. His family moved to Lawndale, California in 1952, where he attended and graduated Leuzinger High School in 1963. He married Rosemary (DiVitorrio) Dukeman on August 17, 1975. They were married for 41 years and raised two sons together, Matthew and Daniel.
David is an Eagle Scout with three palms and a Silver Beaver recipient. He also is a recipient of the Order of the Arrow’s Vigil Honor, Founder’s Award and Centurion Award recipient. He continued to be an active member of the Boy Scouts of America and the Order of the Arrow throughout his life. He worked in the college bookstore business at El Camino Community College, Long Beach Community College, UCLA, and served as manager of the College of the Redwoods Bookstore for 25 years. He also worked for more than 35 years as a small engine mechanic at Western Chainsaw in Eureka, which he always considered to be his fun job.
David enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping and spending time with his sons and friends at various Scouting events through the years. He has been involved with Troop 27 in Eureka for many years and enjoyed spending time at Camp Riggs in Elk River working on various projects. He was a mentor to many young men through the Scouting programs.
He is preceded in death by his mother, Elizabeth Evans; step-father, Arthur Evans; and father, Walter Dukeman. He is survived by his wife, Rosemary Dukeman; sons Matthew (Molly) Dukeman of Lewisville, Tex., Daniel (Caren) Dukeman of Lewiston, Utah; sister Karen Dukeman of Las Vegas, Nev.; and his six grandchildren: Barrett, Kinley, Arley, Walker, Cole and Ember.
A celebration of life will be held from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, July 8th, 2017, at the Eureka Moose Lodge. Please RSVP by June 20th by calling 707-443-9559 or email dukdiv@aol.com.
