UPDATE, 4:03 p.m.: C Street has been reopened, says the Outpost’s Andrew Goff. Fourteenth is still closed.
###
A Honda CRV sports utility vehicle is on its roof at the corner of 14th and C Streets, just a few blocks from the headquarters of both the Eureka Police Department and Humboldt Bay Fire.
Both agencies responded to the scene. It was originally reported that multiple people were trapped inside the vehicle, but when the first fire engine arrived rescuers reported that the occupants were able to get themselves out.
Humboldt Bay Fire Battalion Chief Kent Hulbert tells the Outpost that the people — a woman and two children — do not appear to be seriously harmed, but that they were taken to the hospital by ambulance in any case. They were on their feet and walking.
The accident appears to have occurred when the Honda, moving westbound on 14th street, struck a parked car.
The intersection is closed for the time being.
