How Highway 101 will feel in your mind.

Winter has been hard on Humboldt’s exit routes, but Caltrans is working hard to get you out of here (or back here, conceivably).

First the great news: Caltrans District 1 sends word that the slide that fully closed Highway 101 just north of Leggett has been cleared up enough to allow for one-lane controlled traffic:

Caltrans has reopened US 101 about 6 miles north of Leggett with one-way traffic control. Expect 20-30 minute delays after the long queue of vehicles clears through over the next hour or so. The road will remain one-way until further notice.

Now the better news: Remember that this weekend marks the beginning of friendlier hours on Highway 299 at Big French Creek including another glorious full Sunday of east-west travel. Caltrans District 2 runs through the times below:

Openings are for ALL TRAVELERS and are under one-way traffic control at all times and subject to closure at any time due to weather and/or safety concerns.

Monday – Saturday

  • Mornings – 5:30 a.m. to 7:30 a.m.
  • Afternoons – 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.
  • Overnight – 6:30 p.m. to 5:30 a.m. EXPECT ONE HOUR DELAYS

ADDITIONAL OPENINGS:

  • SUNDAY – The route is OPEN all day on Sundays until Monday morning at 7:30 a.m.

There are three single-time traffic openings at 10 a.m., Noon and 2 p.m.  Motorists must be in line at those times in order to pass through the construction area.
