From the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office:

On Friday March 10, 2017 at about 8:43 p.m. the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Communications Center received a 911 call from a female subject. The female caller stated she and three other females were traveling in their Lexus Sport Utility Vehicle on a rural road following the directions provided by their G.P.S. when they became stuck in the snow and mud. The females reported they were walking away from their vehicle. The females were instructed to return and stay with their vehicle.

The Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office Communications Center was able to determine a G.P.S. location of the subjects with the assistance of the female subject’s cell phone provider. The Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office Special Services Division was notified. A Special Services Deputy and a Posse member responded in a four wheel drive and located the females safe and sound in the Stapp Road and Rattlesnake Ridge Road area. The Deputy was able to free the females’ vehicle from the mud allowing them to drive out on their own.

The Sheriff’s Office would like to remind people to know their route prior to departure and tell someone of their intended route. Bring plenty of warm clothing, water and some food in case you are stuck due to adverse weather and road conditions. If you do find your vehicle is stuck or disabled, stay with your vehicle unless all other options are exhausted as vehicles are easier to locate than people.
