California Highway Patrol press release: 

The Humboldt Area CHP is continuing our efforts to investigate the suspicious circumstances in the Fortuna freeway area.  Recently the CHP has received several more reports of individuals shooting BB or Pellet guns at passing vehicles. We encourage anyone who believes they may be a victim of these incidents to first, get off the freeway to a safe location, and then contact the CHP to provide us with as much information as possible. 

Humboldt CHP will continue to conduct follow up on any and all substantial information provided to us regarding these reports.
