A traffic collision occurred around 11:40 Monday morning at the intersection of J and Buhne streets in Eureka, leaving a four-wheel-drive Chevy Tahoe on its side after striking a Ford Escape.
It took the occupants of the Tahoe several minutes to emerge from the vehicle, according to scanner traffic. A dispatcher reported that one of the subjects had a possible chest injury. Emergency personnel responded to the scene. The Outpost‘s Andrew Goff was on the scene and said the injuries appeared to be minor.
Witnesses told Eureka Police Sgt. Gary Whitmer that the Tahoe was traveling south on J Street when it failed to stop at the Buhne Street stop sign. The Tahoe then struck the Ford Escape, leading the Tahoe to tip over and causing major front-end damage to the Escape.
An older gentleman who was in the Escape was taken to St. Joseph Hospital as a precaution, Whitmer said.
J Street is currently closed from Buhne St. south to Carson St. Buhne remains open.
