Three Humboldt Bay Fire engines are responding to a home on Eureka’s West Grant Street this afternoon, after a mattress on the second floor of a home caught fire.

Firefighters extinguished the flames, hustled the mattress out of the building and vented smoke from the roof. One person on site complained of smoke inhalation, but otherwise everyone seems to be OK.

Grant is still closed between California and A Streets. We’ll update when we know more.
