Janelle August, a sweet southern belle born March 12, 1927 in Conway, Arkansas to Grace Godfrey and John Wesley Campbell, passed away peacefully on March 25. Janelle was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother who loved with no boundaries and unconditionally. She was a friend to everyone and never met a stranger; she taught her family to be kind and loving to all and that it was OK to be friendly, to smile and talk with a stranger.

Janelle was full of light and laughter — she filled a room with her joyful presence! Janelle was beautiful inside and out, and was happy, charming and funny. She loved to use old Southern euphemisms which we all got a good laugh at and to this day repeat every now and then, although we can’t be sure we know the true meaning! Janelle loved to dance, bake and cook and was amazing at all of them.

Her family will remember her most for her big heart, her smile and above all else her laughter. She was the type of person who never left the house without her makeup and lipstick on and was typically late everywhere she went; she used to say she would be late to her own funeral … and I hope that’s true! I hope that she is off dancing into the sunset with her husband, appreciating how much she was loved by her family here on Earth and at the same time being surrounded by all of her loved ones on the other side. So if she is late to her funeral … she is forgiven!

Janelle is preceded in death by her parents, her brother John Lowell Campbell, her first husband George Moore, second husband Phillip August and stepson Dennis August. She is survived by two children, Lana Moore-Kemp and Phillip Moore; stepdaughter Phyllis Walker and stepson Paul August; grandchildren Briana Kemp, Aubri Kemp-Martella, Misty Moore and Tina Moore; step-grandchildren Daniel Walker, Sara Walker, Maya Walker, Tara Walker, Jeff Scott August and Justin August; great-grandchildren Brittany Eustead and August Martella; as well as six step-great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her niece and nephews in Arkansas – Kari, Robert, Chris and John Campbell.

Service to be held for Janelle at the Catholic cemetery on Rohnerville Road at 2 p.m. on Saturday, April 1. Potluck reception to follow at Rohner Park. As Janelle would say “Ya’ll come eat!”
